Hannah, here!
I wanted to share the news that we are now offering a dermaplaning service at Corrective Skincare. Dermaplaning is a skin care treatment that uses a medical-grade blade to gently remove the top layer of dead skin and peach fuzz hair on the face. This treatment is sure to give you an instant glow, allow for products to penetrate deeper, and is the perfect prep for your make-up.
The Dermaplane service can be done on its own, as a half or full treatment, or added on to our DiamondGlow and light peel services (my personal favorite!)
In true Corrective Skincare fashion, we will educate you on how to properly take care of your skin pre & post-treatment. This will ensure the best results to keep you smooth, glowing, and breakout free!
See below for some FAQ's to get you started:
Preparing for Dermaplaning
Please refrain from exfoliating for 1-2 days prior to your appointment (this includes topical prescriptions, scrubs, Retinol, AHA's and BHA's) to maximize your treatment efficacy. Sunburns, wind-chapped skin, over-exfoliated skin, lots of inflammatory active acne and cold sores are all contraindications to Dermaplaning, and we can not do this treatment with those conditions.
Post Care for Dermaplaning
After having the service, you'll have a heightened sensitivity to the sun and to any active ingredients in skincare products. We recommend refraining from using any exfoliants for 2 days after your treatment for this reason. Make sure to use a clean pillowcase the night after your appointment (no bacteria here!) and avoid makeup, sweaty workouts, and long periods of mask-wearing that day.
How often can I dermaplane?
The hair needs time to grow between sessions so we suggest Dermaplane about every 3-4 weeks.
Can you dermaplane thick, coarse hair?
No. Dermaplaning is first and foremost an exfoliation treatment that also removes vellus hair, also known as peach fuzz. Thick, coarse hair (similar to mens beards) should be avoided during a dermaplane facial to prevent irritation.
Can you Dermaplane men?
Yes, of course!
All skin has vellus hair but we are unable to do the beard hair as this is thicker and more coarse.
What is the downtime for dermaplaning?
Your skin may be sensitive and pink for 15-20 minutes after the service but what makes this service so great is that there is no downtime. As with all methods of exfoliation, you'll have a heightened sensitivity to the sun and to any active ingredients in skincare products after.
Does dermaplaning hurt?
Even though the esthetician will be gliding a sharp blade across your skin, it isn't painful at all. It's just like shaving any other part of the body — you can feel it, but it does not hurt.
